Shafaq News / The delegation of Yazidi women and girls, who visited the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region, today, Sunday, confirmed their need for a safe haven to return to their original areas pf residence, noting that the Iraqi government did not support them.

A spokeswoman for the delegation, Um Shani, said that a safe haven should be provided, "so that we can return to our original areas of residence and reconstruct of the region".

Until now, the Iraqi government has not provided us with any support or a safe environment for return to our areas", she added.

It is noteworthy that a United Nations report issued in November 2018 estimated that about 200,000 Yazidis are still living in refugee camps in the Kurdistan Region, despite the return of about 6,000 families to their homes, noting that the majority of those who decided to return are living in harsh conditions.

ISIS had kidnapped about six thousand women and children when it invaded the district of Sinjar, the stronghold of the Yazidi Kurds, in the summer of 2014, and exploited them for sexual slavery.

About half of the kidnapped have been freed, but the fate of the rest remains unknown.
